SunSpark Yoga, an independent, family-owned and operated community studio, was founded in April 2012 and is still operated by both Stacey & Ernie Schuerman through their desire to share a love of yoga, mindfulness & community with others. They found their perfect location in Orange, CA in an historic building of Old Towne Orange. SunSpark Yoga, Stacey and Ernie, their instructors and students are a big part of the community in Old Towne Orange. You can find them in the studio, around the Orange Plaza or in the fabulous selection of restaurants in the circle.
Stacey Schuerman is an ERYT-500 (+7000 teaching hours and over 16 years experience), YACEP (Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider), Yoga Nidra Meditation Guide and Karma Kids Yoga Instructor. She grew up mostly in and around Texas and spent several years on the East Coast before finally settling in Southern California in 2008. Her personal yoga practice and journey began in 2002 after a long stint of gym workouts, when she quickly discovered that yoga was the perfect exercise for aerobic capacity, strength development, balance, increased flexibility and stress reduction. Additionally, she immediately embraced the sense of family and the friendly, open environment within the yoga community, and found yoga helped create a sense of balance in an otherwise hectic life. Over time, her yoga practice became less of an “exercise” and more a part of daily life as she gravitated towards a more meditative, mindful practice.
After 5 years of dedicated personal practice, she decided she wanted to share her love of yoga and its trans-formative power with others. She trained with Johnny Gillespie at Empowered Yoga in Wilmington, Delaware for her RYT-200 Yoga Alliance certification, gaining a solid foundation in an alignment based practice. Since then, she has continued to pursue additional yoga teachings through workshops with Rolf Gates in Power Vinyasa Yoga, David Nichtern in Shambala Meditation, Jillian Pransky in Restorative Yoga, Michael “Mukti” Buck for Thai Yoga Massage and Karma Kids Yoga. In 2011, she completed her RYT-500 certification with Cloud Nine Yoga.
Ernie Schuerman, RYT-200, has been a yogi since 2009 when he met Stacey, his wife, best friend and business partner. Born and raised in Southern California, his past lives include work as an aspiring musician, a truck driver, a fabricator of artificial reefs and trees, a mold maker, a realtor, a mortgage lender and other professions which will not be disclosed here. There was no way he could know that some of these paths were preparing him for life as a yoga studio owner.
In February 2012, his wife, Stacey, called and told him she had just looked at a potential site for their first yoga studio, but she wasn’t sure if the space was right. Ernie went the next day with a tape measure and some graph paper and started envisioning………it would work. With the help of friends and family, he ripped up the carpet, tore down walls, laid slate tile and organic bamboo floors. After two months of blood, sweat and tears they had a yoga studio. He likes to say that SunSpark Yoga is the best art project he’s ever made and it serves as a showcase to display furniture, ceramics and other art he has created. Most importantly, Ernie says, is that it has become the home of a vibrant, diverse and welcoming yoga community. Ernie completed his 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Program with SunSpark Yoga in 2018. His current duties include weaving soundscapes, swiping credit cards, cleaning the floors, folding blankets (fringe in, please), schmoozing with customers, and planning yoga retreats.
SunSpark Yoga continues to be a thriving collective of inspiring teachers that blend a wide variety of experiences & lineages. This provides a unique opportunity for you to explore & practice different styles of body alignment, breath-work & sequencing, and ultimately lead you to a personal practice that is unique & perfect for you in your yoga journey.
